Watch: 13-Year-Old Wows ‘Ellen’ Audience Singing Rascal Flatts Hit
Ellen DeGeneres has a knack for finding talented up-and-comers and the one she found this week is a country gem.
DeGeneres invited 13-year-old John-Robert Rimel to sing on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' after finding his videos on YouTube. He came all the way from Virginia to wow the talk show host live.
"Oh my gosh, it's a beautiful moment," Rimel says about being asked to be on the show. The polite (and funny!) teen says he's been singing ever since he was born, and this was his very first time hitting the big city of Los Angeles.
"People aren't afraid of throwing themselves out there," he says of L.A. That's exactly what he did next. The teenager grabbed his acoustic guitar and belted out an amazing rendition of 'Bless The Broken Road' by Rascal Flatts, while his proud parents looked on.
Ellen told him he "crushed" it and the crowd seemed to feel the same, giving Rimel a standing ovation. While his performance of the Rascal Flatts hit was spot on, his singing dreams may not lead him to the country genre.
"More of a pop/soft rock, especially the classics. Freddie Mercury there will never be another," he explains of his favorite genres to sing. "I really absolutely love Bruno Mars and Michael Buble is good.
Maybe we'll be seeing Rimel singing somewhere in the future. The $5,000 gift card and new keyboard Ellen gave him may even help him get there.
