This week’s Hometown Hero is a Navy Seabee who’s headed back over to Afghanistan for his second tour. Originally from Grand Island, our Hometown Hero is 28-year-old Chris Weatherston!

Chris has been a part of the Navy reserves since 2009. His first tour to Afghanistan was in 2010, where he served as a mechanic for the Navy Seabees for eight months. He has a heart of gold and loves serving his country. He will do whatever it takes to make his country and family proud.

His next tour will be in 2014, and he will be in Afghanistan for an entire year with the Seabees. He is an amazing person inside and out. He loves to fish and hunt, as well as ski and snowboard in the winter. He is someone that many people look up to every day. He also loves his dog Shaye more than anything! He is always smiling and loves life!

So to Chris, thank you for everything you’ve done. We wish you the best on your next tour and hope that you come home safely sooner than later. We want to honor you by calling you our Hometown Hero of the week.

If you would like to nominate someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button at below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them on WYRK.com, but we’ll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.
