There are only a few things that I consider "pet peeves." But one of them I never expected to see deep in the woods.

My father was the first to teach us not to litter. Don't get me wrong, I am not a "tree huger," or the world's biggest environmentalist. However, I believe that we all have a responsibility to keep our part of the world as clean and free from garbage as we can.

I have always wondered where balloons end up when they are released during a ceremony. Or what happens to that balloon that gets away from a small child's grasp?

True, some things are mistakes and are unavoidable. I'm guessing that's what happened with this happy birthday balloon that I found in the woods in Wyoming County.

It's probably a balloon that was mistakenly let go and drifted to this resting spot. Truthfully, it could have been from miles away. But it is just another reminder that each one of us can help keep the area we live in clean.
