When Clay and I were walking out of work yesterday we noticed something going on in Lafayette Square. There was a cherry picker and they were hanging some sort of balls in the trees in Lafayette Square. As soon as we got a better look I knew exactly what they were and I was shocked to see them here! I had never seen this particular item until my parents moved to North Carolina a few years ago.

They worked through the day and when we came in this morning this is what it looked like in the dark.

What are they? They're balls of christmas lights that my mom says they call "Christmas Balls" and it's a HUGE thing down in Eastern North Carolina. When I go to my parents for Christmas it is now a tradition to drive through the neighborhood that is known for these decorations, Canterbury. It's located in Trent Woods, NC and they go all out! It's almost like driving through the festival of lights. The neighborhood chips in a rents a cherry picker and they all go to town with their decorations. It's pretty cool to see in person, but I did take video of it one year.

I have also seen a few of these in some trees in houses in Parkside. Are they NC transplants or is this becoming a "thing" in Buffalo? I will say it is a very cool sight to see!

So if you're in downtown at night, make it a point to swing by Lafayette Square and take in the sights.
