It has been a big deal that Amazon is planning on adding a second headquarters called HQ2 and was looking for bids from cities.  Buffalo and Rochester put a bid in together.  Did they make it?

The cuts were announced today and unfortunately Buffalo/Rochester isn't on the short list.

It's a big deal because according to CNBC, the city that wins the bid will see a boost in employment for sure.  Amazon is said to be hiring 50,000 people for HQ2 and is planning on spending $5 billion in the area.

The 20 that did make the cut:

  • Atlanta
  • Austin, Texas
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Columbus, Ohio
  • Dallas
  • Denver
  • Indianapolis
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • Montgomery County, Md.
  • Nashville, Tenn.
  • Newark, N.J.
  • New York City
  • Northern Virginia
  • Philadelphia
  • Pittsburgh
  • Raleigh, N.C.
  • Toronto
  • Washington, D.C.

The plan is to make a decision on a city by the end of the year.
