We’re always told of the importance of eating well and good nutrition, but Americans love their candy. Last year we spent billions of dollars on candy. And what kind of candy do Americans like better than any other? Chocolate.

What’s the number one selling candy? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup with sales last year of$509.85 million, followed closely by M&M’s at $500.82 million, then Snickers, Hershey’s Bar and Kit Kat Bar.

Earlier this year Time magazine did a survey of candy makers, candy historians and other candy experts to find out what was the most influential candy bar of all time. The one candy that had the biggest impact on the industry and people throughout the world. They decided it was the Kit Kat bar. They called it the perfect blend of chocolate and wafer and because each bar is made up for four fingers that can easily be snapped apart – it’s the perfect candy bar to share with others.

It was originally made by the Rowntree Chocolate Company of York, England starting in 1935 with a slogan: “Have a break, have a Kit Kat.” The name Kit Kat extends back to 18th Century England when mutton pies called Kit Kat were served at the meetings of the political Kit Kat club of London.

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar came in second.
