My July 4th holiday is a little bit sadder this year. We lost an American original. The much loved Andy Griffith died yesterday morning. He was 86. Yes it's true, he lived a good and long life, yet there are certain folks who are just never supposed to leave us. He was one of them.

Of course in the hearts and minds of his many fans like me, he will live on. When I first heard of his passing, I started whistling the familiar Andy Griffith show theme. You know the one where he and "Opie' are headed to the lake for a father-son moment? I bet they even got in a little fishing. However my version of the song was a bit slowed down, almost durge like. Andy Griffith is gone, but never forgotten. Say hello to Barney, Goober, Aunt Bea and the many others for us...
