Any Idea Why the I-290 Is Called The Youngmann Highway?

Tens of thousands of motorists use the route everyday.  It connects the mainline Thruway I-90 with the Niagara section of the Thruway I-190 thru the towns of Amherst and Tonawanda.  It's officially I-290, but most locals call it the Youngmann.

Have you ever seen a sign that says it's the Youngmann?  At one time there was at least one.  But here's a history of why it's been nicknamed the Youngmann.
