It’s time once again for this week’s Hometown Hero.  She is originally from Clarence, NY.  This week’s Hometown Hero is US Army Helicopter Captain Ashley Manocchio.

Her nomination came from her little sister and said:

Ashley attended St. Bonaventure where she began her journey in the US Army and joined ROTC her sophomore year. Her drive and determination didn't stop after college. Ashley went on to flight school where she became a helicopter pilot for the US Army. She flies an OH-58 Kiowa helicopter and is a Captain in the Army. She is now on her second tour in Afganistan.

For those that know my sister know that she has the biggest heart. Ashley is the type of person that always puts others before herself. When you are with her there is no doubt in my mind that you arent laughing hysterically with her.

Words could not describe how proud I am of my big sister. Ashley has showed me that when you set your mind to something you can achieve anything. My sister’s dedication to this country is undeniably the most heroic trait about her. My sister is my hero because she and all that serve allow us to do what we do every day. They are the reason our country is great and will always be great. My sister is fearless. If I am half the person that she is I will be thankful. I just want my sister to know that I love her very much and miss her every day. I am so thankful for her. Get home safe and soon Ashley!!!!

We are very thankful to Ashley and everyone who serves in our armed forces too!   For that, we are proud to call her this week’s Hometown Hero!

If you would like to nominate someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them on WYRK.com, but we’ll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.

Once again, thank you to Captain Ashley Manocchio, our Hometown Hero of the week!
