Ashley Monroe was nominated for two Grammys in the recent 2016 ceremony, and in an interview on the red carpet before the show, she shared her gratitude at the career-changing news.

Monroe had a banner year career-wise in 2015, releasing her highly-acclaimed sophomore studio album, The Blade, and also scoring her first No. 1 single with "Lonely Tonight," a duet with Blake Shelton. The Blade was nominated for Best Country Album, and "Lonely Tonight" was nominated in the category of Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

"To end 2015 with two Grammy nominations ... it's just silly good," she says.

The angelic-voiced singer-songwriter woke up to 27 missed texts on the morning the Grammy nominations were announced, and she was initially afraid something might have happened to her beloved grandmother.

"I have a granny, and my eyes weren't adjusting, so I didn't know if it said 'Grammy' or 'granny.' So I thought, 'Either something's wrong with granny, or I've got a Grammy nomination,'" she relates with a laugh. "But thank god it was the Grammy one, not the granny one."

Monroe says the musical tribute to Glenn Frey was something she was especially looking forward to. "I remember being 2 or 3 years old, and I would be weeping to my parents every time 'Desperado' would come on," she recalls. "No one could quite figure out what was wrong, and even I couldn't. I just knew that it made me feel something. And I'm lucky enough to be friends with Don Henley, which is crazy. Their music really meant a lot to me, and still does."

Chris Stapleton ended up winning Best Country Album for Traveller, while Little Big Town took home Best Country Duo/Group Performance for "Girl Crush."
