Dale Mussen

I've been doing this radio thing for over 35 years now. I've been a part of the Breakfast Club morning show since 1986. Since I was a kid, I've loved to read. I read the newspaper each day nearly cover to cover – usually not the classifieds though. I get a lot of ideas for my Daily Data segment just by reading the paper. I’m a lifelong Bills and Sabres fan, and I've been a regular in the press box of both teams since 1979 -- but I'm still waiting for one of them to win a championship! Four cracks at it for the Bills and two for the Sabres, and they came up short. I was born and raised in the Buffalo area. I went to school at Niagara University, and since Clay went to Canisius, we get to raz each other twice each year when the Eagles and Griffs meet to play basketball. I have a large collection of records. I'm one of the few that still has the old vinyl, including a lot of old 45s in their original sleeves. Some kids probably have no idea what I'm talking about at this point. My favorite things to do in my spare time are bike riding and fixing things around the house, and each fall, I officiate high school football games.

I Can’t Believe It’s Been a Year

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year.  It was one year ago today my wife, Shelley, passed away.  One year.  Boy time goes fast.  They say when a loved one passes away that first year is always the toughest.  It’s all of the firsts – the first birthday, first wedding anniversary, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years.  All of those special occasions that are tough to deal with.  But, I’m certainly not going to miss her any less when the second and third and fourth ones come around.

Jeckyll & Hyde Sabres

I asked a number of players after the game what happened in the locker room between the second and third periods of Friday night's game between the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins.  How do you explain how a team that played its worst period of hockey this season suddenly came out and played perhaps its best?

The players insist nothing much was said.  They say they just quietly reassed what they needed to do and why they weren't doing it.  Well then, OK.  If that works for them, keep doing it.

Friday Fish Fry

There are so many things unique to Buffalo, especially its food. People who move away crave things like beef on weck and genuine Buffalo chicken wings. Out of towners say yeah you can get wings elsewhere, but they just taste better here. And another thing not necessarily unique to Buffalo is the Friday fish fry. You can find fish frys in a lot of cities in the Northeast and around the Great Lakes with a heavily German and Polish Catholic heritage.

Time For A Gulp

President Obama’s State of the Union address last night was pretty much as expected – a call for higher taxes and for the rich to pay their fair share, immigration reform and tougher gun laws.  But the thing that’s getting huge response is the Republican response by Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

Sabres Fan Enjoyment Level: Zero

It was two years ago when owner Terry Pegula stated the Buffalo Sabres reason for existence is to win the Stanley Cup.  Right now that couldn’t be further from the truth.  This is the worst Sabres team in at least 15 years.

Banning Youth Football? Not the Answer!

How many state laws do we need?  Can’t do this, can’t do that.  In Albany, state legislators are considering a ban on youth football.  Yep, they say there’s a growing number of young football players who suffer head injuries and there could soon be a couple of bills being introduced in the State Assembly and the Senate that would ban kids under the age of 11 from playing football.

Happy Pazcki Day — Say What?

Today is Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras.  Whatever you want to call it – it’s the day before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.  And for many Christians it’s a day to party it up, to eat their favorite foods and drink their favorite beverages.

Sabres Fade Against the Bruins

The Buffalo Sabres seemed to run out of gas in their game with the Boston Bruins Sunday night at First Niagara Center.  The Sabres gave up a third period power play goal to break a 1-1 tie and the Bruins went on to a 3-1 victory.
