Dale Mussen

I've been doing this radio thing for over 35 years now. I've been a part of the Breakfast Club morning show since 1986. Since I was a kid, I've loved to read. I read the newspaper each day nearly cover to cover – usually not the classifieds though. I get a lot of ideas for my Daily Data segment just by reading the paper. I’m a lifelong Bills and Sabres fan, and I've been a regular in the press box of both teams since 1979 -- but I'm still waiting for one of them to win a championship! Four cracks at it for the Bills and two for the Sabres, and they came up short. I was born and raised in the Buffalo area. I went to school at Niagara University, and since Clay went to Canisius, we get to raz each other twice each year when the Eagles and Griffs meet to play basketball. I have a large collection of records. I'm one of the few that still has the old vinyl, including a lot of old 45s in their original sleeves. Some kids probably have no idea what I'm talking about at this point. My favorite things to do in my spare time are bike riding and fixing things around the house, and each fall, I officiate high school football games.

Pick the Flavor, Win a Million

How many potato chip flavors do we need? For me, barbeque, salt and vinegar, maybe sour cream and onion and just plain old regular will do. But when you’re the world’s largest potato chip maker you need dozens. Lays puts out such flavors as Dill Pickle, Ketchup, Garden Tomato & Basil, Thai Sweet Chili, Oven Roasted Chicken & Thyme, even Seaweed. Most of those flavors are available overseas, but in this country Lays averages one new flavor a year and this year they’re asking for your help.

Sabres Win Ugly Game

They did find a way to rally to a victory over the Montreal Canadiens, they did end a three-game losing streak and they did send the fans home happy.  But despite the win the Sabres problems continue to be glaring.

Monopoly Boots the Iron

We learned yesterday that “Monopoly” has dumped the iron and replaced it with the cat as a play piece on the game board.

Hasbro invited “Monopoly” fans to vote on the switch and more than 10-million people did. The boot, iron and wheelbarrow received the fewest votes in support. The Scottie dog got the most support.

How Bad Is Buffalo Traffic?

Funny that on a day when traffic in this area was a nightmare on the 190 and 290, the Texas Traffic Institute issued a report that says traffic congestion in the country is improving. But most of that is because the economy is so bad. When people don’t have jobs they don’t drive to work. And they also go out less in the first place.

New Quiet Zone on Planes

I love kids and I love babies, but when you’re on a four hour flight and surrounded by six babies that screamed the entire way, it’s more than anybody should have to deal with. It happened to me on a flight out to California for Thanksgiving and I felt bad for the parents of those babies. What are they supposed to do? They tried their best to keep them quiet, but I think it was the change in altitude that was driving the babies crazy and they kept screaming.

Famous Toy Inventor Passes

Sad to hear that the inventor of the Etch a Sketch passed away. Frenchman Andre Cassagnes came up with the idea in his garage in the early 1950’s. Originally known as the The Magic Screen – it was displayed at a toy fair in Nuremberg, Germany in 1959 and it was the president of the Ohio Art Company who paid $25,000 for the rights to what eventually became the Etch a Sketch.

Early Spring?

Punxatawney Phil made his annual prognostication on Saturday morning.  He didn't see his shadow and it means spring will arrive early this year.  Phil emerged from his burrow on Gobbler's Knob at sunrise and according to legend if he see his shadow it scares him back into his burrow to wait out another six weeks of winter.  If there is no shadow it means warmer temperatures are ahead.
