The Erie County Sheriff's department has issued a warning to be alert for a phone scam they've learned about.  They've received complaints that a man claiming to be a sheriff's deputy is making calls warning residents that they've missed jury duty and demanding that they pay a $2,500.00 fine to avoid being arrested.

In each case the residents were told to pay the fine electronically. The sheriff's department says they have no such policy in place and you should hang up immediately.

Instructions for jurors each day are posted on the nycourts.gov website.
