Greg Biffle not only won the race at Michigan but took over the Sprint Cup points lead.  He actually inherited the lead in the race when Jimmie Johnson left the track with engine trouble with six laps to go. Because Johnson’s car left oil on the track it came down to a green-white-checkered finish and Biffle held off Brad Keselowski by under a half a second at the finish line.

Biffle becomes one of six drivers with two or more wins but when they re-set the standings heading into the Chase, three drivers could be ahead of him because they have 3 wins this season.

Following Keselowski, Kasey Kahne, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Marcos Ambrose completed the Top Five.

Johnson had quite a day going. He started in the year because of an engine change but battled his way to the lead in the late going only to have his engine fail on him. So Johnson remains winless at Michigan.

He was just one of a number of major names that failed to finish the race – Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart went out with engine problems. Kyle Busch and Mark Martin were involved in wrecks.

So just three races left before the Chase with Biffle holding a 20-point lead over second-place Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is third and Johnson drops from first to fourth.

Off to Bristol next week.
