Modest as they may be, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton likely knew they'd be mentioned among 2014 CMA Awards nominees, but garnering a collective twelve nods? It was a shock.

The duo found out about the nominations while in New York City. Lambert had gone outside of the city to ride horses, but called her husband as soon as she got the good news.

"I said, 'What did I get?' And she told me two or three things," Shelton tells People. "Then I said, 'Well, what did you get?' and she said, 'Oh, nine.' I said, 'That's got to be a record!' She said, 'Oh, well … I tied my record from last year.' She says it halfway embarrassed. If it was anybody else, she probably wouldn't even talk about it, but with me she's pretty excited about it."

The songstress is up for Entertainer of the Year (as is Shelton) in addition to Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year ... the list continues.

While Lambert may be subdued in her excitement, Shelton is beyond proud of his wife -- even if he's a little concerned about where they'll store nine new awards should she them all in November.

"I mean, my God! I don't know, is it even possible to get nine? Where do you put that much s--t if she wins it all?" Shelton asks. "It's just unbelievable, she's this unique individual that's not like anybody else and it's cool to see her be recognized for that."

The 2014 CMA Awards -- aka Country's Biggest Night -- will air live from Nashville on Nov. 5. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will once again team up to host the red carpet event on ABC.
