The ACM Awards nominations were announced Feb. 1, with one name noticeably missing: Blake Shelton. In response to Taste of Country’s mention of the snub, Shelton chimed in to say that he’s not taking it too hard.

Shelton is one of country’s biggest stars and is continually nominated for awards across the board, including two ACM nominations in 2015. The artist is handling the somewhat awkward situation with his trademark sense of humor, noting he will enjoy taking the night off.

He is, however, nominated for a Grammy award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his tune with Ashley Monroe, “Lonely Tonight.” Shelton says though it would be an honor, he wants it to go to someone else.

Joey + Rory Feek have been walking a difficult journey lately, as Joey is in her last days of fighting terminal Stage IV cancer. The duo are preparing to release an album of hymns this month.

Shelton is working on a deeply personal album after going through a divorce in 2015, and he says he can’t wait for it to be released later this year.

“I want to get it out there,” he told Country Countdown USA. “It’s driving me nuts to not be already into that project because it’s all I’m thinking about.”

He says he’s written more than he has in 15 years and has put his soul into the record. And people will know it when they hear it.

“I’m doing what I’m supposed to do, and that’s [take] all I’ve gone through and put it into music, and I never felt more connected to a record before," Shelton explains. "When people hear this record, they may not know what happened to me, but they’re gonna know how I felt about it. And that’s exciting for me, to just lay it out there for people.”

Next year, expect Shelton to be nominated for a host of awards for the new record.
