Tough night for Brad Keselowski at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Chase for the Sprint Cup points leader led the most laps, but for the second night in a row his crew miscalculated, and he ran out of gas. So for what looked like a sure victory, Keselowski found himself a lap down and he ended up 11th.

Keselowski also saw his points lead cut in half from 14 to 7 points over Jimmie Johnson.  It was nearly a carbon copy of the night before when he ran out of gas in the Nationwide race.

Clint Bowyer won the race and moved to fourth in the standings, 28 points behind Keselowski with five races left.

Denny Hamlin finished second. He stands third, 15 points back.

Johnson came in third. Greg Biffle and Kyle Busch completed the Top Five.

It was the first time since 1979 an Earnhardt wasn’t behind the wheel in a Cup race.

Dale Earnhardt, Junior sat out because of concussion concerns. Regan Smith drove the Number 88, but an engine problem ended his night early on. He’ll drive again next week at Kansas.
