Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood Make Lawsuit Jokes in ‘High Life’ [Listen]

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood love to crack jokes together, and this time they’ve done it in song. The two take inspiration from a lawsuit claiming they ripped off their duet ‘Remind Me’ in Paisley’s ‘High Life’ from his forthcoming album.

“I heard a song a couple months ago,” Paisley sings, “It was Carrie Underwood on the radio. It reminded me of a poem my brother wrote back in second grade. I know she didn’t steal it, but so what? We lawyered up and sued her butt. These days we figure we pretty much get paid to go away.”

Meanwhile, Underwood’s unmistakable voice sings about “the high life” in the background, adding her big vocals to the chorus about “a bunch of lowlifes living the high life.”

The superstars not-so-subtly take aim at singer-songwriter Amy Bowen, who filed a lawsuit in 2013 claiming ‘Remind Me’ was stolen from her. Bowen says she wrote a similar sounding song in 2007 and brought it to a songwriting workshop, at which the song’s writers, Kelley Lovelace and Chris DuBois, were advisors.

The case has not been dismissed. Bowen is asking for $10 million. More details about the case and where it stands are here.

‘High Life’ appears on Paisley’s ‘Moonshine in the Trunk’ album, out Aug. 26.
