The Buffalo Bills came up short on a late game drive and fell to the Washington Redskins 21-16 Friday night.  The Bills elected to go mainly with back-ups while the Redskins played most of their projected starters for a majority of the game.

The Bills built an early 6-0 lead, but missed tackles and penalties allowed the Redskins to get back in it.  Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins passed for three straight touchdowns in the second quarter and the Bills never recovered.

Tyrod Taylor played just two series before being replaced by E-J Manuel.  Manuel played the rest of the game, passing for 221 yards and scrambling for 38 more on the ground.  He nearly led the Bills to a comeback victory when receiver Greg Little caught a 7-yard pass in the end zone with 10 seconds left, but it was wiped out by a push-off penalty.

Rookie running back Jonathan Williams accounted for the lone Bills touchdown on a 37 yard run.  Dan Carpenter was 3 for 3 on field goal tries including a pair of 52-yarders.

The Bills finished with 13 penalties in the game after taking 11 in the preseason opener.  But give the Bills the benefit of the doubt on some of them with the officiating crew making several questionable calls.

Back up tight end Chris Gragg suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the game.  He'll probably be lost for the season.

The Bills close out the preseason against the Detroit Lions next Thursday night.
