A better effort and a better result for the Buffalo Bills in their preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.  But the Bills needed a big defensive play at the end of the game, an interception by Jonathan Meeks to hold off the Panthers 20-18.

EJ Manuel started the game and finished 9 of 13 for 96 yards.  He led the offense into Carolina territory three times but the Bills came away with only three points.  The opening drive stalled at the Carolina two-yard line when two Freddy Jackson runs up the middle were stuffed for no gain.

Jeff Tuel replaced Manuel and connected with Chris Summers on a one yard touchdown pass, while Anthony Dixon scored on a one yard run and Dan Carpenter hit on a pair of field goals.

The Bills are back at St. John Fisher until they travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania later in the week for joint workouts with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of their preseason game next Saturday night.
