The Buffalo Common Council has approved what they're calling a "Nuisance Party" ordinance to address the ongoing problem of late night parties in the city's University Heights district near the UB South campus.  It gives Buffalo police officers the ability to break up large parties that have plagued the area around UB.  It allows police officers to walk into homes without a warrant when they feel there's evidence of underage drinking, drug use, littering or outdoor urination.

Residents in University Heights have long complained about loud parties and all the trash that's left behind the morning after.  With this new ordinance the city feels they have a better tool to deal with not only rowdy party-goers, but with the property owners who host them.

Buffalo police will now be able to issue appearance tickets to people who attend parties and property owners where fines and even jail time could result.  Penalties include fines up to $1,500 and up to 15 days in jail.
