At the time police officials said that even though the Tahoes were larger, they were more fuel-efficient.  And at a price of about $30,000 apiece they were a real bargain.  But in just two years the price of the Tahoes has increased by $19,000 and additionally some of the officers have complained about their performance in the snow.  The police department was forced to put snow tires on the fleet of Tahoes.

Earlier this week the Buffalo Common Council was presented a proposal to purchase up to 25 Dodge Charger patrol cars at a cost of about $38,500 each.  In addition to the lower cost, the Chargers are four-wheel drive.  The Tahoes are not.
