After a strong start to the season the Buffalo Sabres have been sputtering and it's cost them three straight games.  It wasn't until the third period they finally got their offense in gear, but they were already in a 3-0 hole and couldn't catch up as the Senators handed Buffalo a 4-2 loss.

Carter Hutton had a tough night in goal as a shot bounced off the back wall and deflected off his back into the net for Ottawa's second goal and then he got wiped out by one of his own players allowing the Senators to easily score their third goal.

The Sabres starting sending players to the net in the third period and it paid off with a pair of goals.  Jason Pominville playing in his 1,000th game scored his 6th of the season and less than three minutes later Jeff Skinner scored on the power play when he tipped in a Rasmus Ristolainen shot.  But that's as far as the Sabres came.

A steady trail to the penalty box didn't help either.  The Sabres couldn't get anything rolling because they were forced to defend their own end of the ice.

Same two teams go at it again Saturday afternoon at KeyBank Center.
