Good effort, but the Buffalo Sabres came up short again in Detroit, a place where they haven't won in nine years.  They came close.  The Sabres battled back from down 3-1 to score three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead in the third period only to give up a power play goal forcing overtime, then a shoot-out.

Ryan O'Reilly, Matt Moulson and Jack Eichel were selected for the shoot-out and none of them were able to score while the Wings' Brad Richards did and it was enough for the win.

Evander Kane scored twice for the Sabres.  Zemgus Girgensons and Zach Begosian had the other Buffalo goals.  Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen assisted on all four Buffalo goals, two coming on the power play.  That gives the Sabres four power play goals in the last two games.

The Sabres are home Friday night to host the Phoenix Coyotes.
