Give full marks to the Buffalo Sabres.  They went up against the St. Louis Blues, one of the better teams in the league and extended them to overtime, then a shootout before falling 3-2.  Sam Reinhart and Ryan O'Reilly scored the Buffalo goals.  O'Reilly's goal in the second period tied the game and it remained tied until a shot by Thomas Steen in the shootout trickled over the goal line for the winning goal.

The key to this game was the Sabres' failure to score on two five-on-three power plays.  One goal in either one of those situations would have had a huge impact.  Buffalo goaltender Linus Ullmark stopped 27 of 29 shots in the loss.

The Sabres move on to play the Dallas Stars in Dallas on Saturday night, then return home to host the St. Louis Blues on Monday night.
