After three straight losses the Buffalo Sabres finally figured out a way to win for the first time this season.  But after blowing a 3-1 third period lead they needed overtime and an 8-round shootout to do it.

Zemgus Girgensons scored the deciding goal to give the Sabres a 4-3 win at Carolina.  Matt Moulson also scored in the shootout while goaltender Jonas Enroth stopped seven of eight Carolina shots.

Marcus Foligno scored twice and Torrey Mitchell scored in regulation as the Sabres built a 3-1 lead, but the Hurricanes scored twice in the final eight minutes to tie it to force extra time to decide it.

The Sabres are back home Friday to host Florida.
