It's becoming increasingly apparent that this year's edition of the Buffalo Sabres is just simply not a very good hockey team.  It certainly doesn't help that their most talented player and another key player were hurt a day apart.  Without Jack Eichel and Evander Kane in the lineup the Sabres have limped to a 1-3-2 record that leaves them tied for the worst record in the NHL.

The Sabres latest stumble was Thursday night against the Minnesota Wild in a 4-0 loss.  That came off of Tuesday's meltdown in Philadelphia when they surrendered three power play goals in the third period and eventually lost a game they had led 3-0.

The Sabres were tentative in the opening 20 minutes against the Wild, giving up a pair of goals to fall behind 2-0.  And even though the Sabres woke up in the second and third periods, outshooting the Wild 30-9 they just couldn't break thru.  Meanwhile the Wild showed how good teams play with the lead.

After playing so well against Philadelphia, backup goaltender Anders Nilsson gave up a bad goal early in the game and another one on a breakaway, and the Sabres never recovered.  Goaltender Robin Lehner has been out with an illness all week.  The Sabres host the Florida Panthers on Saturday afternoon and Lehner's status is still in question.
