It wasn't pretty, some fans even complained it was boring, but boy it was effective and it earned the Buffalo Sabres a victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings Tuesday night at First Niagara Center.

The Sabres played sound defensive hockey, refused to allow the Kings to get their offense wound up and gave goaltender Jonas Enroth a clear look at shots.  Enroth stopped 34 shots for his fourth career shutout while Tyler Ennis scored a third period power play goal and it was enough for a 1-0 win.

If this kind of hockey is the key to winning games, bring it on.  I'd much rather watch a 1-0 game the Sabres win than a game they lose 6-5.  The game is all about winning and whatever they have to do to get the job done I'm on board.

The Sabres have won 7 of their last 10 games.  They still have a long way to go, but they seem to be on the right road.

The game against the Kings was the first of a four-game home stand and the first of five games in eight nights.  The Sabres host Calgary on Thursday night.
