On Columbus Day in the United States and Thanksgiving in Canada with so many people enjoying the day off it appeared the Buffalo Sabres wanted to join them because they certainly didn't show up to play hockey.  The Sabres sent a sell-out crowd home disappointed with a 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

The Sabres spent most of the first period killing off four penalties and were lucky to escape down only 1-0, but it was more of the same in the second and third periods.  The Sabres managed only 12 shots for the GAME.  Some teams get that many shots in half a period.

Meanwhile the Ducks bombarded Sabres goaltender Michael Neuvirth with 44 shots scoring on him five times.  Neuvirth said they just made way too many mistakes -

Sabres captain Brian Gionta says they have to learn from their mistakes and it starts in their own end -

Tyler Ennis scored the lone Buffalo goal - his second goal of the season.

The Sabres play the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh on Tuesday night.
