Give the Buffalo Sabres credit.  After a dismal game the night before against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Sabres somehow found a way to win a game against a team they hadn't beaten since 2009.  Zemgus Girgensons shootout goal was the difference as the Sabres beat the Detroit Red wings 3-2 at First Niagara Center in the first of a four-game homestand.

The Sabres fell behind in the third period 2-1, but Chris Stewart's first goal of the season tied it, forced overtime and the shootout where both Girgensons and Tyler Ennis scored.  Ennis had a great game drawing three penalties and an assist on Stewart's game tying goal.

And Michael Neuvirth was tremendous in goal stopping 36 of 38 shots including a flurry in overtime where the Red Wings spent most of the extra session in the Buffalo zone including nearly the entire two minutes during a 4 on 3 power play.

It's the first home win of the season for the Sabres.  They host Montreal on Wednesday.
