It's just another reminder that pro sports is a business and in the case of the Buffalo Sabres, general manager Tim Murray is trying to bring a championship to the city.  Yesterday Murray traded defenseman Mike Weber to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a third round draft choice in the 2017 draft.

Weber was drafted by the Sabres in 2006 and was the Sabres' longest-tenured player. Before the team headed to California for a three-game road trip he had a feeling he might be headed elsewhere and sure enough he was informed on Tuesday that he'll be joining the Capitals.

It was clear Weber didn't want to leave.  He's basically bled blue and gold since he arrived.  He's actively been involved in supporting community events for years and has been a sponsor of Tickets for Troops, providing tickets and recognition to veterans at Sabres home games.

Weber is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, so he could turn out to be just a rental for the Capitals in their drive to the Stanley Cup. Other trades could be on the way.  The NHL trade deadline is Monday.
