In a game they never trailed, the Buffalo Sabres needed an overtime goal by Zemgus Girgensons to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 on Tuesday night for their first road win of the season. The Sabres built a 2-0 lead on goals by Tyler Ennis and Jamie McGinn in the first period, but the Flyers chipped away to tie it 2-2 midway thru the third period.

A little over a minute and a half after the Flyers tied it, Jake McCabe scored his second goal of the season to put Buffalo on top again.  Then with under a minute to play and their goaltender on the bench the Flyers forced overtime when Sabres goaltender Chad Johnson couldn't see a shot coming thru a crowd of Flyers crowding the net.

In overtime, Johnson came up big on a shot that looked like a sure goal, swiping the puck out to Sabres defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo who fed Girgensons with a perfect pass to put him in all alone on Flyers goaltender Steve Mason and beat him with a quick shot to win it.

The Sabres travel to Pittsburgh to face the Penguins Thursday night.
