In a season when the Buffalo Sabres just don't seem to get many breaks they finally had a game where a couple went their way including one of the strangest goals you'll ever see.  Sabres defenseman Mark Pysek took a shot that deflected high over the goaltender onto the back of his jersey and basically rolled into his pants while he slid into the net.  The Sabres raised their sticks in the air, the goal light never went on, the referees went to a video review and after about 90 seconds the decision was the puck was in the net and the Sabres had a 2-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes in overtime.

Not only a strange goal, but a strange game.  The Sabres dressed only 16 skaters  because of sickness on the team and when Drew Stafford was ejected for taking a major penalty they were down to 15 skaters and basically three forward lines.

The game was pretty much a yawner with the Coyotes holding on to a 1-0 lead late in the third period, but Zemgus Girgensons found a loose puck at the Phoenix blue line and fed Tyler Ennis for the tying goal to force overtime.

So entering the Christmas break the Sabres have won three of their last four games.  They're in Toronto Friday night to meet the Leafs.
