The homicide rate in Buffalo for this past year was 40% higher than it was in 2011.  According to reports, there were 50 homicides in Buffalo during 2012 and authorities say the majority of them were gang/drug related.  In some cases, innocent bystanders, who were in the wrong place at the wrong time, accounted for some of the homicides.  Lastly, domestic violence killings made up a small percentage of the 50 homicides, with the most notorious being the horrid rolling pin murder of a 10-year-old boy by his stepfather back in April of 2012.
