May is Hamburger Month. For me every month is hamburger month. My sisters called me Wimpy because I like hamburgers so much. "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." Where do I go for a good burger? I've put together a short list of places where I know I'm going to walk out happy. So in no particular order - here are my favorite burger places -

  • Vizzi's in Kenmore

There are some people who say Vizzi's has the best burgers - bar none. Plenty to satisfy the biggest appetite. They've got a great beef on weck too.

  • Grover's in East Amherst

Huge burgers - 12 ouncers. Most people end up ordering one and splitting it. Juicy, delicious and it's worth the wait. Sign in on the board and wait to be called. The fries are great too.

  • Blues Burger Bar at Seneca Niagara Casino

Who would think a casino place would serve a good burger? The burger place at Seneca Niagara is top-notch. You don't even have to be gambler to eat there. Give it a try.

  • Cheeburger Cheeburger in Amherst

I usually steer clear of franchise restaurants because there are so many quality local places to eat, but Cheeburger Cheeburger has delicious burgers in various sizes served in a 50's diner decor. Complete your burger with a combination order of fries and onion rings. And how many places will serve you a milk shake made with real ice cream these days? Cheeburger Cheeburger does.

  • Red Robin in Amherst and Orchard Park

Good burgers and unlimited french fries. Bit on the pricey side though. Nice atmosphere.

  • Taggert's in Wheatfield

One of my favorite places for a burger disappeared about 10 years ago. The place where it once stood is now covered by part of the Colton RV parking lot on Niagara Falls Blvd. in Wheatfield. Great hand-made, juicy burgers - now just a memory.
