Along with the U-S national anthem, the Canadian anthem is played at every Buffalo Sabres hockey game.  If you're a hockey fan you probably know the words to the Canadian anthem about as well as you know the anthem of your own country.  Well, think again.

Apparently there were some in Canada who thought the Canadian anthem had a phrase that was sexist.  Maybe they didn't exactly say that but some felt it was non-inclusive so the politically correct advocates went to work and lobbied for a change and they got it when the Canadian Parliament this week approved a lyric change.

The previous version of "O Canada" had the words "true patriot love, in all thy sons command."  Sons; that was the problem.  Sexist?  Non-inclusive?  Either way it's been changed.  To make the line more gender neutral it will be replaced with "in all of us command."

So here are the words to the latest version of "O Canada";

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land, glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee;
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

It'll be interesting to see whether Sabres anthem singer Doug Allen stumbles with that a couple of times before he gets it right when hockey season resumes in the fall.
