Goaltending made the difference in the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. The Sabres benefitted from some shaky work from the Columbus netminder while getting 45 saves from Michael Neuvirth.
It was a game between the best and the worst team in the National Hockey League and the result should be a no-brainer. The better team did win, but it wasn't easy. The Buffalo Sabres were four minutes away from beating the Nashville Predators in regulation until another Buffalo penalty put the Predators on the power play and they scored to tie it to force overtime and a shoot out. That's where the Predators won it 2-1.
It came down to a green, white, checkered finish and at the end it was Joey Logano winning his first Daytona 500. Logano ran up front almost the entire day, led 31 laps including the last one and it was not only his first win, but his first Top 5 finish in the 500. It's Logano's ninth career victory.
The Buffalo Sabres put in another good effort and this time it resulted in a win. For the second straight game the Sabres went to a shoot out to decide it, but this time it was Buffalo that came out on top 3-2. Brian Gionta and Brian Flynn scored in the shoot out for the victory.
I have to respect the effort here. But it's kind of dumb to think that you'll get into a game without being patted down. How many beers can you actually fit in your clothes? Well, this guy is pushing the limit. He tried to fit an entire case in there!
There have been games this season where the Buffalo Sabres have been just putrid and hard to watch. But, Tuesday night they gave a big effort. Tyler Ennis scored early in the third period to tie the game at 1-1, they went to overtime and finally to shootout. That's where it all came crashing down in a flaming heap.
