It only took one take for Charles Kelley to perfectly nail this cover of Miley Cyrus' 2013 hit "Wrecking Ball."

"I've always thought that song was one of the best written songs I'd ever heard," Kelley tells People magazine. "I think Miley does an amazing job on it. I always thought it was an amazing song, no matter what genre it even lived in. Music like that — it just transcends genre. I thought it would catch people off-guard."

This video was done as a part of Capitol Records' 1 Mic, 1 Take series, where it's simply a single microphone, one guitar and the vocal talents of Kelley. He makes the rendition his own, stripping it, slowing it down and adding some country grit. This cover may not be what we would normally expect from the Lady Antebellum frontman, but that might just be what makes it so beautiful.

Now all Kelley wants to know is if his cover gets the Cyrus stamp of approval.

"I hope she hears it, man!" Kelley continues. "I really do think she's a great artist. She's known for a lot of her antics, but underneath there, there's definitely a true artist. I think that's one of those songs that is going to be around for a long, long time and it would be cool if she hears it. I hope she digs it."

Kelley's debut solo album, The Driver, is set for release this Friday (Feb. 5). He will be taking his show on the road this spring in support of the project with eleven tour dates all across the country.
