Chris Young sees on a daily basis how dedicated members of the United States military are to their jobs, community and country. During CMA Music Festival, Young is doing something to support American armed forces worldwide, and fans are invited to be a part of it.

Young’s sister Dorothy (known as Dot) served in the Marines for many years, and her husband is still active.

“Just having military in your family, I know how much time they give up,” Young tells Taste of Country. “So being able to acknowledge them in that way is really cool.”

"That way" is his partnership with Crown Royal, an arrangement that will result in one fan getting an all-expenses paid trip to the CMA Music Festival next month and $10,000 being donated to Stars for Stripes, a nonprofit Young is passionate about that provides entertainment to troops in remote sites overseas. Through May 30, fans over 21 are encouraged to tweet about the most generous person in their lives, using the #GiveACrown and #Entry hashtags on Twitter and Facebook.

The most generous person in Young’s life is his sister, he says. Since she and her family returned to Nashville, the “Sober Saturday Night” singer says he spends time with every day that he’s in town. She’s a working mother and is married to an active duty Marine. “She gives up so much of her time to go do stuff for other people,” he says of Dot.

The two are separated by just 13 months and have always been close. In fact, CMA Music Festival brings back memories for them.

“It was something my mom could take me and my sister to go do, and it wasn’t crazy expensive for her,” he says, laughing about his memories of what was then known as Fan Fair. This year, find Young performing a private show at Nashville’s Crown Royal Lounge on June 7. The winner of the aforementioned trip will also get to attend the CMT Music Awards on June 8 and see Young at Nissan Stadium that weekend.

Vince Gill joins Young on “Sober Saturday Night,” but don’t expect to see him on stage with the younger singer during CMA Fest. The legend is out of town, Young shares, but he fully intends to perform the song live with his childhood hero.

“Oh, we’re making that happen at some point,” he says, laughing. “That’s going to happen, 100 percent.” The single is his third from his I’m Comin’ Over album. His latest was a chart-topping duet with Cassadee Pope called “Think of You.”
