It really is important to me to shop as local as often as I can. Although the economy may not be what it used to and the "mom and pop" stores have dwindled in numbers, a few in Western New York find a way to stay successful.

When I walk in to Hogg's Dairy (pronounced Hoags) at Route 5 and Old Lake Shore Road in Lake View, I'm reminded of the lyrics to Alan Jackson's song "Little Man."  Even though some of the larger convenience stores have all but taken over, Hogg's Dairy has been going strong since 1981, and they are even expanding.

I spoke with Deana Hogg about her family's store on Monday and she informed me that her father, Dean, purchased the building when it was a vacant gas station while he was still in high school.

Dean and his wife Linda exemplify the definition of small business owners. Hogg's Dairy offers competetive pricing with attention to what customers need and want. Deana told me "we enjoy getting to know our community regulars and all that pass thru."

Because of it's location, Hogg's in Lake View is a great place to stop on your way to work for a coffee, a snack for that road trip to the beach or a sub sandwich on your lunch break.

A clean, well lit store, Hogg's success in Lake View has enabled them to open a new location on Route 5 in Angola!

With "the coldest beer in town" and "homemade gelato and ice cream," Hogg's has become a tradition for locals and those that pass through occasionally for  35 years. Stop in and say hi on your drive down Route 5. Store hours 7am-10pm and opened until 11pm on weekends.
