Country Music Timeline: Elvis Joins The Army

Elvis in the army

March 24 –We’re 9 months away from Christmas Eve!  I think that because we got a second winter, we should get a second Christmas too.  Kenny Chesney’s buddy and Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning turns 35 today.  Warner Brothers’ character Sylvester The Cat turns 66 today too.  He never did get that Tweety Bird.  Now on with the country music history…

1958 – Elvis Presley is sworn into the Army.  He is thoroughly convinced that it would be the end of his musical career.  He’s 23 years old at the time.   (Wikipedia)

1984 – Toby Keith is celebrating an anniversary today.  He’s celebrating 27 years today with his wife Tricia.  (Wikipedia)

1984 – Alabama rolls to the top of the Billboard charts with “Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler).”

2005 – Keith Urban’s “Making Memories Of Us” video premiers on CMT.

2006 – Buck Owens has his favorite meal (a chicken fried steak) at his Crystal Palace restaurant and despite telling his band that he wasn’t feeling well performs for the last time.  He dies of a heart attack in his sleep the following morning.    (Wikipedia)

2007 – “Beer In Mexico” moves up to the #1 spot on the Billboard country charts for Kenny Chesney.

2007 – Peyton Manning is the host of Saturday Night Live on his birthday.  His musical guest for the night?  None other than Carrie Underwood.
