Here are two statistics that really grab your attention:

Someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds. Every 4 minutes, someone dies of stroke. ~ Centers for Disease Control

The key to changing that is pretty simple: We need to get out and move more.

The American Heart Association | American Stroke Association actually suggests that we each spend 150 minutes a week (or 30 minutes each work day) doing a "moderate intensity physical activity."

Cycling is a great way to do that, so get ready to ride the revolution! The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) is hosting the first-ever CycleNation event in Buffalo from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the ADPRO Sports Training Center, 1 Bills Drive in Orchard Park.

This high-energy, endorphin pumping, indoor stationary cycling event, chaired by Dr. Chee Kim, Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Kaleida Health, and Dr. Elad Levy, Co-Director of the Kaleida Health Stroke Center, will welcome over 400 people to raise lifesaving funds for heart disease and stroke research in our community.

So far, Buffalo's CycleNation event has raised more than $112,500 toward its $200,000 goal.

YOU should join them; getting started is easy. According to the event website, "each bike has a minimum fundraising goal of $1,000 and can have up to eight riders. Your team can reserve as many bikes as needed."

The stationary bikes will be set up at ADPRO Sports Training Center, so you can enjoy fun interactive events and music while supporting an important cause. You are welcome to ride the whole time or take turns riding with team members.

Registration is open from 4-5 p.m. Cycling is from 5-7 p.m. and cocktails are from 7-8 p.m.
