Dierks Bentley and Elle King got good news bright and early on Wednesday morning (Nov. 2), when they were announced as the winners for Musical Event of the Year in the 2016 CMA Awards for "Different for Girls."

Written by JT Harding and Ross Copperman and released as the second single from Bentley's eighth studio album, Black, "Different for Girls" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart on Oct. 1. The win for Musical Event was announced during Good Morning America on Wednesday morning.

Bentley says the song is a reflection of where he is in his life, and he knew he wanted to reach out to King because of not only her music, but her funny tweets and feisty personality, which reminds him of Miranda Lambert.

“Since I often write from the male perspective, I was really excited to be a part of someone else’s story that is jumping outside of the norm for a relationship song,” King says. “The lyrics are really smart and I love that he is bringing a lot of attitude to modern country music.”

Bentley was thrilled just to be nominated, he admitted.

“It’s a big deal. To go from playing on Broadway [in Nashville] to right now …” he reflects (quote via the Boot). “This song, I lost a lot of sleep over it being a single, because I was just scared to death people weren’t going to get it, or it was just too much for people to handle. To be nominated is a huge deal … There are a lot of collaborations up.”

Bentley is also nominated for Male Vocalist, Album and Video of the Year at the 2016 CMA Awards, which will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday at 8PM ET on ABC.
