When I was a kid, I was scared to death of the dentist.  If it wasn't the dentist, it was the orthodontist. I just hated going. I'm not sure if it was the tightening of my braces, the extractions, the fillings or just the sound of the drill that I hated the most...but I hated it!

My mom and dad put a lot of money into my smile even though I didn't really help them out much as a kid. I never flossed, and while my orthodontist was telling me to stay away from gum, hard candy and popcorn, I still loaded up at every chance.  Despite all of my counterproductive acts, my teeth ended up getting straightened out and looking pretty good.

When I finally got my braces off and had a great new smile, my parents put my dental health in my hands. They had done all that they could do. The problem was that I still hated going to the dentist. I had a great smile, so why did I need to keep going to the dentist?

Luckily, I've found a dentist that I love.  She's awesome!  It's a world of difference these days from what I had when I was a kid.  Of course, I've grown up a bit since then, but I don't have the same anxiety that I used to have then.  I had to get a shot today, and I didn't even know that she had done it.

I've tried to take care of my teeth the best I can by eliminating some of the bad habits that I picked up as a kid and adding some good ones to my routine, but it's only because of the great work done by both my dental hygenist and my dentist that I even come back at all.  There was a time that I would have preferred to see my teeth rot out of my mouth than to go back.  It's not like that at all now, and it's all because of them.
