It's not that checking and roughing up in hockey isn't something that is seen in every single game. However, you normally don't see it against a ref...no matter what the league level the players are in.

Yesterday, an ECC men's hockey player bolted out of the penalty box and charged at a ref. It looks in the video as if the ref wasn't even looking in that direction when the player stormed at him from out of the box.

The game, at Binghamton at SUNY Broome Community College, was ended late in the third period after the hit. The player, who has been identified as Brandon Day, was apprehended by authorities and charged with assaulting a collegiate official. Police said there would be more information released Monday morning.

Erie Country executive Mark Poloncarz tweeted out last night that he would be speaking with President Quinn on the incident.
