There have been games this season where the Buffalo Sabres have been just putrid and hard to watch.  But, Tuesday night they gave a big effort. Tyler Ennis scored early in the third period to tie the game at 1-1, they went to overtime and finally to shootout.  That's where it all came crashing down in a flaming heap.

Goaltender Michael Neuvirth gave up an early power play goal, but was solid the rest of the way including a stop on a penalty shot.  But in the shootout he gave up goals to the first two New Jersey shooters and that's all the Devils needed for a 2-1 win.  Neuvirth ended up stopping 34 of 35 shots thru the overtime period, but had some tough luck in the shootout.

You can't question the Sabres effort in this one.  And it has to be tough to lose games like this when your effort isn't rewarded.

The Sabres remain on the road to play the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.
