Elma’s Kaminski Wins Olympic Team Archery Silver

Elma native Eric Kaminski is an Olympic medal winner. He and teammates Brady Ellison and Jacob Wukie settled for silver when Italy’s Michele Frangilli was perfect on the final shot of the match to claim the gold for the Italians by just one point. It was the first-ever gold medal in archery for Italy and the silver was the best finish for American archers since 1996.
The story of the match might be the Americans’ upset of the heavily favored Koreans in the semi-final round. Things were looking good for the Koreans after Friday’s ranking round where they set a world team points record. Then easily defeated Ukraine in the quarters when they tied an Olympic team points record.
The U-S team meanwhile limped into the semi-finals after a mediocre ranking round and a one point win over Japan in the quarters. But they were deadly accurate in the semi-final to leave the four-time gold medal winning Koreas to battle Mexico for the bronze.
