People a plenty are celebrating Elvis Week, marking the 36th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death.  The spectacular is already underway and runs through this Saturday, August 17.  I would think why not celebrate Mr. Black Velvet's birthday instead? It just seems a birthday is a happier occasion, that's all.

Fans are flocking to Memphis for the big event, which includes concerts, conferences, fan club meetings, stuff for charity and other Elvis-related activities. There's a trip to Tupelo, Miss. for the Elvis Birthplace Tour, just 100 miles away. In Memphis, how about the Hound Dog Tour, which takes fans to locations that were special to Elvis. Elvis's longtime drummer, D.J. Fontana, and others will perform or make appearances. The annual Candlelight Vigil along the driveway at Graceland past Elvis's grave this Thursday the 15th marks the anniversary of his passing. The overnight gathering is the high point of Elvis Week.

Presley suffered a heart attack while at Graceland and went to a better place on August 16, 1977 at 42 years of age.
