It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week,we have two Hometown Heroes.  Both are from North Tonawanda.  Today, our Hometown Heroes are Eric Monkelbaan and Carey Volk Monkelbaan!

Eric was born and raised in Tonawanda NY, graduated high school in 1999 and left for boot camp April 2001.His basic training was at Lackland, Air Force Base for Security Forces (MP). Stationed at Minot AFB from 2001-2005. Eric worked as Law enforcement and nuclear security.

 

Carey Volk Monkelbaan was born and raised in Minot, ND. Graduated high school in 1998 and left for boot camp in November of that year. Carey spent most of her 4 year enlistment stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. She deployed in 2001 for a 6 month tour of the western Pacific aboard the USS Harper's Ferry.

 

Carey and Eric met in 2003 while he was stationed at Minot Air Force Base, ND and soon after they met, they married in 2004 and moved to WNY in 2005 where they now reside in North Tonawanda!

This week, we are proud to name Eric and Carey our Hometown Heroes of the week!
