TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR WNY HOMELESS FEMALE VETERANS
Western New York – The Erie County American Legion Family is looking to locate a building to house our homeless female veterans and their children.
Our mission has been and always will be to support our Military and their families. The Legion Family has the opportunity to remodel a closed School. This will be the first shelter for Homeless Female Veterans in the Western New York area to provide a safe haven along with services that shall become the stepping stone to self-efficiency.
The property will be reconstructed enabling us to house 40 homeless female veterans with single and family units, day care rooms, cafeteria, residential & program space that will assist our veterans in acclimating back into society.
Our projected date for opening this facility is 2017, and so we are looking to the WNY community to help us raise funds. On Saturday, May 3, 2014, we will be holding a “LIVE AUCTION” with Damon Gentner at the Orchard Park American Legion Post #567, 3740 North Buffalo Road, Orchard Park, NY. Doors open at 6:00 PM with the auction starting at 7:00 PM. Admission is $2.00 per person and includes snacks and one (1) beverage. A cash bar will be available along with food. We will have door prizes and a 50/50 split.
We are taking donations of new appliances, antiques, afghans, furniture, gift baskets, gift certificates, tickets for theater, concert, or sporting events, time share or condos, plane tickets, etc. and any cash donations can be made by making checks payable to the ECAL Family Project, C/O David McKeever American Legion Post #64, 1770 South Park Avenue, Buffalo NY 14220. Your donations are tax deductible.
